Review: Restaurant & Bar Tech Live 2019

Live debates, technology demos, a dedicated networking area, even a ‘Nightclub Zone’ – there was plenty to discover this year’s Restaurant & Bar Tech Live Show. The event took place last week at London ExCeL (19th and 20th November), and as a media partner, Retail Connections took every opportunity to learn from the experts.

The place to source hospitality sector products and services

This was an ideal opportunity to interact with over 500 of the UK’s top suppliers under one roof, and to take advantage of free consultations and demonstrations of the products that aim to provide hospitality businesses with crucial competitive edge.

Keynote speakers and seminars

A packed agenda of seminars and keynote presentations was on offer over the two days. A standout keynote was delivered by Lisa Paton, International Growth Director at BrewDog who looked at the challenges and rewards of accelerating international growth.

Restaurant and Bar Tech Live 2019 Simon Wallis, International Managing Director at Domino’s Pizza Group fascinated the audience too. His session ‘Feeding the Power of the Possible’ revealed how Domino’s Pizza Group created a ‘winning culture’ in the UK and Ireland, by putting its brand purpose at the heart of everything it does.

Cain Savazzi, Operations Director at TGI Fridays also explored the power of strong brand positioning : How Strong Brand DNA Is Crucial in the Current Climate.

Yapster session

We enjoyed a fantastic presentation from Yapster’s Rob Liddiard on ‘digital leadership’ in hospitality, which you can read more about here.

Yext and Five Guys session

There was also an excellent session on: How Your Restaurant Brand Can Succeed in Search

This was hosted by Lee Zucker, Head of Industry, Food Services & Hospitality at Yext, and Paul Hamilton Head of Brand at Five Guys Europe.

The session explored how you can supply the right answers to search queries (even the unbranded ones), map the customer journey across AI-powered discovery services, and drive measurable results. In other words, some great tips on how to lead hungry consumers to your tables, counters, and bars from their online searches.

A key issue the pair addressed was this: Consumer searches are becoming more and more complex; is your brand prepared to answer these questions?

In case you missed this talk and want to know more, the lovely people at Yext have produced a handy whitepaper entitled: How Restaurant Brands Can Succeed in Search, which is free to download.

The next Restaurant & Bar Tech Live show takes place at  ExCeL London on 8th and 9th September 2020.
